Ashlyn L. Yarnell is the Senior Associate at Ronald W Nelson PA, in Lenexa, Kansas. She graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Minor in Spanish and Leadership, with a Certificate in Conflict Resolution. She graduated from Washburn University School of Law with a Certificate in Family Law. While at Washburn University School of Law, Ashlyn was on the Competitive Trial Advocacy Team, where she was a Regional Semifinalist in Denver, Colorado. She received the 2012 Missouri Bar Plan Foundation Scholarship for Ethics and Professionalism. While at Washburn Law, Ashlyn served as a Washburn Law Admissions Ambassador, Blog Author, Panelist, and Tour Guide. Ashlyn is a member of the National Order of Barristers.
Before joining Ronald W. Nelson, PA, Ashlyn worked as a Legal Intern with the Johnson County, Kansas District Attorney’s Office handling Child in Need of Care proceedings and Juvenile Offender matters. She was a CASA Volunteer while attending Kansas State University. While in law school, Ashlyn served as Representative–at–Large for the Student Bar Association, as the American Bar Association Representative for the Washburn Student Bar Association, and as Vice-President and Events Coordinator for the Washburn Law School Chapter of the Hispanic American Law Student Association.
Ashlyn is engaged in a civil trial and appellate practice limited to divorce, parentage, non-marital, and post-decree matters, and Child–In–Need–of–Care proceedings. She is admitted to practice law before all trial and appellate courts in the State of Kansas as well as the federal district courts in Kansas. She is a member of The Johnson County, Kansas Family Law American Inn of Court, and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC). She is admitted to practice before the Kansas Supreme Court (2013) and the United States District Court for the District of Kansas (2013). She is a member of the Johnson County, Kansas Bar Association, the Kansas Bar Association (Member, Family Law Section), and the American Bar Association (Member, Family Law Section). She has taught numerous continuing legal education courses for the Kansas Bar Association, the Johnson County Bar Association, and other groups.
In 2017, Ashlyn was appointed as the parent attorney representative to the 18-member Child Welfare Task Force authorized by the Kansas Legislature in its 2017 Session to investigate and report on concerns for the Kansas Foster Care and Child Welfare system.
