LEGISLATIVE TESTIMONY
We frequently provide testimony to the Kansas Legislature and various legislative committees about problems we see in the law and remedies we believe appropriate to correct those problems in the law. We have also suggested and drafted legislation and testified in favor of its passage by the Kansas Legislature.
On this page, you will fine some of the written testimony we have given to the Legislature. We provide this page and other pages on www.kansas-divorce.com as a public service to help with the understanding of Kansas domestic relations law.
Despite what many people think, domestic relations is a complex area of the law and what may seem simple is often much more complex than realized. Although domestic relations is governed primarily by state statutes, individual judges determine how those to apply those statutes in any individual case and situation. Domestic relations law is not “black-and-white” and the statutes do not specify exactly how the courts are to decide any case or issue. Instead, the applicable statutes provide judges and attorneys only broad principles to apply in deciding how to determine domestic relations issues – such as “equitable distribution,” “best interests of the child,” and to decide what is “fair and appropriate” in any case.
